The Crisis in Lebanon: October 2024

Lebanon’s humanitarian crisis continues to escalate, with increased hostilities causing widespread displacement, infrastructure damage, and severe strain on essential services. As of October 2024, over 1 million people have been displaced within Lebanon, with many seeking refuge in overcrowded shelters. The ongoing economic collapse compounded the crisis, severely weakening the country’s ability to respond to basic needs such as healthcare, food, and water.

Lebanon's Socio-Economic and Political Situation

Lebanon’s deep-rooted socio-economic struggles include high unemployment, public debt, and widespread poverty, worsened by political instability and sectarian tensions. The country also bears the long-term impact of hosting 1.5 million Syrian refugees, many of whom live in extreme poverty.

The current conflict has intensified these issues, crippling Lebanon’s infrastructure, disrupting essential services, and exacerbating inequality. Water shortages, health crises, and a lack of basic necessities are pushing more people into despair.
